MotoGP 2013 Official Calender & Rider list

Loading....

The FIM has unveiled the official 2013 MotoGP calendar.  The Argentina round of MotoGP however has been taken off the 2013 calendar, citing safety reasons. In June this year the Spanish government had asked teams and riders sponsored by Spanish oil and gas company Repsol, (primarily known for being the title sponsor for the factory Honda team amongst others) to not travel to Argentina given a rift between the Argentine government and the oil major.

The deadline for Dorna Sports to officially submit the official 2013 MotoGP to the FIM was November 18. Dorna was notified by the Spanish Government about the withdrawal of its request asking Repsol sponsored teams and riders to not travel to Argentina on November 20. By then Dorna had submitted the calendar to the FIM, which is why the Argentinian round of MotoGP has not been included in the 2013 calendar. However, given that the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit in Argentina has signed a three-year deal with Dorna, the ministry of foreign affairs Spain has confirmed that there will definitely be an Argentinian GP in 2014.

While the Buddh International Circuit is set to host a round of the World Superbike Championship in March next year, there is no word about MotoGP coming down to India. Having said that, we can only hope the Buddh International Circuit makes it to the 2014 MotoGP calendar.

Hero MotoCorp is currently working with Erik Buell Racing to develop a quarter-liter bike. The bike will be unveiled on AutoExpo 2014  & company is considering this as a deadline for product completion. The bike will be available in the market later in the later half of 2014. Many top level engineers from Hero MotoCorp are working for designing and initial stages of development of this 250 cc motorcycle. The later part of development and production will be shifted to India.

The bike is being developed in partnership with American company Erik Buell Racing (EBR) at their technology centre in the States. The bike will probably be packed with 250cc Single Cylinder LC configuration with 4-Valve head. The Power output will be around 23- 27 BHP.  However with products like Duke 390 and Pulsar 375/390 coming to our market same time, competition will be much more.

On Nov 11 Honda unveiled six new models for its 2013 lineup but the center point of these six bike were the 500cc trio (CB500F, CBR500R, CB500X) . All there of them are powered by 499cc Parallel twin cylinder liquid cooled engine. This engine is capable of producing 47 ps of power and 40 nm of torque. interesting point is this there are priced very competitively (Around 3.5 Lakh INR in US).

KTM 390 Duke

KTM is continuing its aggressive competition to gain a fair share of our market, which it started with the launching 200 Duke. KTM 390 Duke is built around the same trellis frame as the 200 Duke, but painted in KTM’s orange racing colors. The suspension, tyres and brakes seem to be the same as the Duke 200. The bike is powered by a 375cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine that is capable of generating  44PS @ 9500 RPM of power and 35NM @ 7250RPM torque. KTM claims a dry weight of 139 kg that will will give this bike a whooping 316ps/tonne power to weight ratio, making it a complete rocket.

For European market Duke 390 will be equipped with ABS as standard. We hope in India it will also come with  ABS as bike of such performance definitely demands some serious braking power. KTM Duke 390 shares a lot of parts with little sibling Duke 200 so we expect it to be very reasonably priced. The 390 Duke will be manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s plant in Chakan and expected price will be around Rs. 2 Lakhs which still will be a Steal for such  high-performance bike.

Honda-CB500Series-11

Honda is set to debut a number of 500cc machines at EICMA next month, two of which we have already glimpsed: the Honda CBR500 & Honda CB500R. Joining the smaller sport bike and street-naked is is the Honda CB500X, a 500cc version of the Honda NC700X.

Spotted all together at an Italian commercial shoot, all three models are said to share a 500cc parallel-twin motor that makes 45hp, as well as the same basic chassis.

Fitted with “traditional” telescopic forks, single brake discs up front, and all three models sharing a bevy of major parts, Honda should be able to be very aggressive with its pricing structure on the new 500cc model line.

Looking at the components as well, it is clear that Honda intends its new CBR500, CB500R, and CB500X motorcycles to be priced at the lower end of the pricing spectrum, making them attractive to newer and price-sensitive motorcyclists — especially our friends across the pond who are riding with an A2 license.
